Compare and Contrast(Merida and 3 other princesses)

Hi!~ I’m Whipping Cream^^. Last week Our writing class watched a movie about a Disney princess. This princess is different from the other princesses. The other princesses like dresses and being pretty and have a love; however in this movie I learned that princesses don’t all have to be like that. They each have their own freedom and choice. So today from the Disney princesses(Jasmine, Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel, The Little Mermaid, Belle, Pocahontas, Mulan, The Frog Princess)I have chosen 3 princesses and will compare the differences and similarities with Merida.

On Friday I watched the movie “Brave”. Brave is about a princess named Merida trying to change her fate and she changes it by knowing about her mother’s love. Merida is a princess who was different from when she was born. She enjoyed archery the most and didn’t act like a princess. But Merida isn’t the only Disney princess. Today I’m going to compare Merida with 3 other Disney princesses.
1)     Trapped VS Freedom
-       Merida and the princess Rapunzel both long for freedom, instead of staying long dreadful days in their towers or castle. Merida always finds a little of freedom when going in the forest and shooting arrows, however Rapunzel stays in the tower dreaming of freedom until she captures a boy, who helps her to get freedom. Till then she keeps having the same routine every day.
2)     Family VS Love
-       In almost every Disney princess tale the princess grows up with a wicked stepmother or witch then grow up a handsome prince kills the bad guy and they both get married and live happily ever after. But not this time. What would you choose if it was love or family? Merida chooses her family’s love rather a boy’s love; however the Little Mermaid “Ariel” chooses her love for Eric, over her father.
3)     Magic VS the Real life
-       A wisp or a magic carpet? A witch or a genie? Magic or the real life? What would you choose? Merida sees a is(a type of magical creature such as a pixie or fairy)that leads her to the witch’s cottage, which changes her fate with magic. The princess Jasmine from Aladdin is in the same situation as Merida. Aladdin changes into a prince with the help of a genie, magic carpet and magic as well.

In conclusion, Merida isn’t a normal princess. She’s different from the other Disney princesses. She doesn’t like to be trapped inside some place or be told what to do. Merida is the kind of princess who wants to run free, not wear dresses and live freely. Unlike Rapunzel who is trapped,Ariel who chooses a boy’s love over her father, but Jasmine has similarities with Merida.

                        -Lessons from the movie-
                           *Change your fate
                           *Be brave

*NEVER take potions from a witch

  2. Actually Ariel and Merida are alike in many ways. One of their parents not encouraging what they do, something they both love gets destroyed by their parent(Ariels cavern and her Eric statue and Merida's bow.), they both want freedom, they both go to a witch and the outcome changes their lives(Ariel getting legs and Meridas' mom turning into a bear), one of their parents almost dies/disappears, they both get what they wanted in the end and their relationship with their parents get stronger and they live happily ever after. They both also have red hair and blue eyes.
